iPhone 6 (Plus): 128 GB versions with memory problems (update to iOS 8.1.1)

Among other things, the official Apple forum complaints are piling on endless crashes and reboots the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at the 128-gigabyte versions. According to an Asian media report shall be due to the TLC-Flash memory and its controller. It remains questionable whether this can be solved with a new firmware or the hardware should be replaced. iOS 8.1.1 is to ensure improvement.

Update: According to reports, the iPhone should already sold 6 with TLC Flash by iOS 8.1.1 receive some improvements. How this actually look like and if so the described problem is solved, remains unclear.

Anyone who has spent around 900 euros for a current iPhone 6 with 128 gigabytes of memory or 1,000 euros for a corresponding Plus version, could possibly not be entirely happy with his investment. The smartphone is then practically unusable for a long time-rich in the international press are reports of problems, the occasional, about frequent crashes, up to constant endless reboots accumulate. Appropriate postings can be read, among other things in the official Apple forum.

Is it goes to the Korean (English-language) website, which is located on the TLC-Flash memory to be used in the 128-gigabyte versions. As the only contract manufacturer provides this handy Samsung manufactures who uses it, for example, in his Evo SSDs. While for MLC NAND (Multi Level Cell), each cell will be described with two bits, there are at TLC (Triple Level Cell) Three. The website suggested that it might therefore be a problem with the memory controller, which ensure the crashes and reboots.

Apple itself has so far not yet indicated. If the problem actually lie with the memory controller, remains to be seen whether it can be fixed with a firmware update. If this is not the case, should the manufacturer rather large expense coming, in the worst (rather unrealistic) case of a recall. Until then we recommend to purchase a maximum of the 64-gigabyte versions.
