Bye iPhone 6, hello iPhone 5s!

The first impression has not deceived me. After six weeks of intense use, I come to the conclusion: The iPhone 6 is not the right smartphone for me. And even if Apple is doing everything to discourage me downgrade, I have today ordered the iPhone 5s. For someone who spent two years with the iPhone 5 on the way, which still represents an increase. Here are my reasons for the step back from progress.

I was already not a fan of Apple's push to change the display from the fourth to the fifth generation enlarge. The foursome was on the dimensions perfectly in the hand. Nevertheless, one could with the extra length of the iPhone 5 live well in the long run. But on the 4.7 inches of the iPhone 6 I can even after six weeks of intensive use not get used. The size - almost an inch wider and 1.4 inches higher - makes one-handed operation almost impossible. The option by double-tapping on the home button descend the screen contents on thumb radius (one-handed mode), is in truth nothing more than a crutch. For me, the focus is clearly on a smartphone on the handiness and quick usability in everyday life, less on how Retina HD display, contrast ratio and screen size specifications.

Technically hardly disadvantages

Without question, the iPhone 6 offers technical advantages compared to the iPhone 5s: A8 instead A7 processor, improved co-processor, continuous autofocus, HDR for video shooting function and of course NFC. But the benchmark comparisons show that the scores of the two models are not as far apart in terms of pace. A downgrade is to get over. So I do not expect to have to reckon with app updates over the coming months with a significant drop in performance. Even with the battery life of the difference between the iPhone 5s and 6 is small. Here only the scores even more iPhone 6 Plus. And with a widespread use of mobile payments with NFC is also not to be expected in Germany by 2016.

Design is not intended to end

Much has been written in recent weeks about #Bentgate. This refers to the scandal over the possibility that iPhone can bend 6 and 6 Plus due to their construction. A godsend for media and haters who have completely covered poured out their malice on Apple, especially since the company apparently is very accommodating and bent devices exchanges without hesitation.

A necessary decision

Admittedly, the decision was not easy. For me it is self-evident since the original iPhone to upgrade every two years at the latest model of Apple. But so far it has not been difficult to recognize the development of Cupertino as the measure of all things. Apple was known for thinking things to the last detail before implementation to the end. That has now changed. Sure the small disappointment is not enough to make the constructed around Apple ecosystem of hardware and media as a whole in question, but the iPhone 6 gives me no relevant added value. On the contrary, it forces me to downgrade.
