That's why you should not hold the iPhone 7 to the ear

The Apple iPhone 7 radiates significantly stronger than the previous model and also more than the competition. On an information page, Apple even points out that one should use the hands-free function to protect against radiation.

It of every new smartphone generation, the manufacturers try to improve the devices further. More memory, more processor power, higher resolution. Year after year the figures in the specifications climb upwards - but with a value one hopes exactly the opposite: with the mobile phone radiation.

But while Apple's new iPhones again and again as the "best iPhone ever", the radiation values seem to deteriorate from year to year - and in the iPhone 7, the apple company now even seeks to point to an info page and for A lower radiation exposure recommends the use of the hands-free option.

"To reduce the RF (high-frequency) noise, you can use a hands-free option, such as the built-in speaker," says the page. In addition, Apple recommends the iPhone 7 always with a distance of 5mm from the body wear.

The iPhone 7 has a higher SAR value than the competition

The reason for this recommendation is the increased SAR value compared to the previous models of the iPhone 7. SAR stands for specific absorption rate and expresses how much watts per kilogram of radiation affect the user when the mobile phone is held to the head during telephone calls and operates with the highest radio power.

For the current iPhone 7 this value is 1.384. This is still well below the limit of two watts per kilogram of body weight, but much more compared to the competition.
This is how the competition cuts

While the iPhone weighs 1.384 watts per kilogram to the user, the radiation of the competition is significantly lower - and also the direct predecessor, the iPhone 6s, stands with a SAR value of 0.87 better. In addition, the SAR value of the iPhone 7 is more than double that of the nine-year-old iPhones of the first generation.

IPhone 7: 1.384
IPhone 7 +: 1.238
IPhone 6s: 0.87
IPhone 1st generation: 0.62
Google Pixel: 0.33
