What You Should Do Before iOS 9 Update


iOS 9 is the next generation of iOS that will be released later this fall, presumably alongside of annual updates to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. While we're still at least a month before its release, it's never too soon to start preparing your iDevice for the upgrade.

Should I update to iOS 9? You will need to decide whether or not you should actually upgrade. There are pros and cons to for iOS 9 Upgrade, so you should bear in mind that every update comes with new problems. So before downloading and installing iOS 9 on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you are suggested to take a look at some useful tips regarding iOS 9 update preparations in order to make the upgrading more smoothly.

1. Make Sure Your iDevice is Able to Run iOS 9

The new iOS 9 will work on a few more generations of devices than past iOS releases, as Apple intends to extend the life of your iPhone and iPad by adding new features through these iOS updates. 

iPhone: iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus.

iPad: iPad 2, iPad 3rd generation, iPad 4th generation, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3.

iPod: iPod touch 5th generation, iPod touch 6th generation.

2. Check your connection

There are two ways to download and install iOS 9 on your iDevice. If you plan to install Over the Air, confirm that you have an available Wi-Fi connection. If you intend to install via iTunes, you need your computer and the latest version of iTunes.

3. Back up your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Last but not least, make a backup of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch before update, in case the data get lost if you run into any problems during the update. iTunes and iCloud are common ways to backup iDevice. If you want to backup your iDevice on computer, make sure you have latest iTunes installed. If you want to backup to iCloud, you’ll need the Wi-Fi connected.
Another option is to backup iDevice to computer in a readable format, so you can view them anytime you need. AnyTrans, an iOS data manager is the way to go.

4. Make sure your device has enough free space

The iOS 8 update requires at least 5.8GB free storage for downloading during the update. Luckily, Apple has shrank the iOS 9 package size to about 1.3 GB, however, for those 8GB or 16GB users, it still can be a tough task to make enough room. So you must check how much free space is available on your devices: Settings > General > Usage. PhoneClean, an iOS cleaning tool will help you clean out junk files from your iDevice to make more room, it also helps remove messages, Safari history, Safari cookies, etc.
