As expected, Apple has unveiled iOS at its annual developer
conference WWDC. The new version of the mobile operating system is focused
primarily on improving battery life and smart assistant Siri. If you have not
decided whether you should update your iPhone, iPad to iOS 9, read this article
to make a decision.
Part 1. Should You
Update to iOS 9: Pros
Proactive voice
assistant
Apple expands iOS nine with the functionality of its smart
voice assistant Siri and Spotlight search considerably. These are so proactive,
similar to Google Knows card program. This was partly done through a summary
page where app suggesties and the most important news is visible.
Spotlight can search third-party apps and users directly
here to send when they tap a link. Furthermore, Siri has to respond smarter to
natural sentences in which reference words are used.
Because of this it is enough to ask Siri to make a memory of
"this" as for example open a web page. The wizard leads itself off it
to the information that is contained in that page. Siri in iOS 9 gives further
suggestions for apps and can also automatically agreements that arrive via
e-mail into Apple's own balding Rapp.
Multitasking on iPad
As expected, iOS 9 brings improved multitasking on iPad.
Users could already easily switch between running apps, but in the new version
they can operate simultaneously in two apps.
This can swipe left another app at the right of the screen,
e.g. the Messages to respond quickly to a text message. Through the right is also
a list of other running app to call. For video use is made of so-called
picture-in-picture. The movie being played will then be placed in a small
corner of the screen and continue playing.
This functionality works on newer iPads, from the iPad Air
and iPad Mini 2. The iPad Air 2 also offers the ability to keep the apps
actually both active, the screen as it were, is split into two. Both apps offer
using the same touch functionality.
iOS 9 also provides additional key features for the iPad.
Pressing two fingers on the screen, a kind trackpad functionality of laptops is
imitated. This should make it easier to copy and paste entire chunks of text,
such as e-mails.
Better performance
Apple stressed that iOS nine runs more efficiently than predecessor
iOS 8. That should translate them in active use an iPhone in an extra hour
battery life. In addition, the new version also introduces a special power
saving, using some features are turned off to save the battery. This would
again have to provide three hours of additional battery life.
In line with earlier rumours Apple is iOS nine also in
efficiency in terms of storage space. iOS nine takes significantly less space
than iOS 8. The file size of the update is of 4.6 gigabytes reduced to 1.3 GB.
iOS namely 9 is also available for older iOS devices. The
operating system requirements are unchanged, so even iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users
can download the update when it is released.
Apple Music
After persistent rumours after the presentation of iOS nine
still time reserved for Apple's answer to streaming services like Spotify Apple
Music. The app combines streaming music with a social network called Apple
Music Connect and a live radio station.
Music artists get their own page, where they are able to
provide updates on the status of their new album. Users can then respond to the
page, similar to how it works, for example, Facebook.
In addition, the app recommends certain music on the basis
of suggestions from artists. Apple promises that this functionality does not
only consist of an algorithm. Apple Music also offers a kind of Internet radio,
Beats 1. The live radio is continuously managed by real people. Beats via one 24-hour
a day radio from three different studios in New York, Los Angeles and London.
Apple Music as expected costs $ 9.99 a month, but the first
three months free. The service will be launched June 30.
Renewed apps
Apple Updates iOS ninth with a number of its own apps,
including Maps and apple pay. Maps will have a separate display of public
transport routes which can be scheduled through multiple means of
transportation. Also, a survey of eating and shopping opportunities near the
location where users are located.
With iOS 9 also introduced a new app, Apple News. The app is
best to compare with the app Flipboard, which transforms an RSS feed of various
newspapers and websites to a kind of digital magazine.
Apple also announced that the payment service apple pay from
July is also available in the UK. Also, the Passbook app, which various maps
and tickets can be saved, renamed Wallet.
Finally, it should switch from Android to iOS easier through
nine, thanks to a separate app called Move to iOS. Allows wireless contacts,
messages, photos, mail settings, and even apps on Google's operating system
will be transferred to it from Apple.
