Will the next iPhone waterproof?

A patent indicates that the Apple Watch and future generations of iPhone and iPad could be waterproof. In this case, Apple relies on a clever method.

If you want to have a waterproof smartphone, now no longer needs to be robust, but clunky outdoor equipment access. Sony protects its premium models for some time against water and dust, Samsung's Galaxy S5 can rain or involuntary bath also not harm. But in the future there could be iPhones and iPads, which are water-resistant: A patent application shows that Apple already makes thoughts, how can it immune his devices against water, without compromising the design.

The document will be sealed to methods of "protection of electronic components from moisture", more precisely, a process in which sensitive components with a water resistant protective layer, such as "Apple Insider" reports. The method described may be coated with the individual components of a plasma layer, enables extremely thin protective layers between one and ten microns (1000 microns correspond to 1 Millmeter) and is therefore especially suited for extremely compact design devices such as iPhones or iPads. Cables and other sensitive parts should also be sealed with silicone components that are shielded against electromagnetic interference are achieved through small holes in the shells.

How and in what devices this method can be applied in the future, is not known. Conceivable and suggests would be an application in the Apple Watch, are entitled to expect from the customer some degree of water tightness and can be worn in the shower, according to Tim Cook.

Even the iPhone 6S, Apple's next generation of smartphones could get the water repellent treatment. In the patent drawings is a smartphone package to see, but they were filed in March 2014. Thus, conclusions on the design of the next iPhone, they can not.
