iPhone: Apple Patent Should Illegal Recording Videos Suppress

Apple apparently is working on a technology that could be used, among other things, to stop video recording to the iPhone in certain situations. The iPhone maker has been awarded a corresponding patent on Tuesday.

Apple's new patent number 9,380,225 describes under the name of "systems and methods for receiving infrared data with a camera to detect images using visible light," a technique that could use Apple to the video recording function of the iPhone camera blocking under certain conditions.

With the technology Apple could detect if you want to film a concert with the iPhone by artists who do not want records of their performances, infrared data send out, prevent the illegal photos or videos, for example. In the patent, as another example, classified events or facilities mentioned, which may not be filmed.

"If the data contains a shutdown, the device can temporarily for a certain time after receiving the command to switch off the recording function (30 seconds or 30 minutes)", according to the patent. "After disabling the recording function, the device would not be able to save images. Depending on the version, the device would not even be able to display images on the display. "In addition, it is possible, using the technique to erase the last stored recordings.

Even the artist himself go before against the fixation of their performances. Alicia Keys recently announced that smartphones have to be plugged in concerts in a special envelope. So they should not be used during live performances.

Primarily Apple wants but use the infrared data to detect objects or places and to trigger appropriate actions. An iPhone could then, for example, automatically offer in an exhibition, a guided tour or to call attention to a retail store on the latest offers.

The patent is not Apple's first attempt to restrict illegal use of its equipment. A mid-2012 granted patent number 8,254,902 provides details on a technique for "policy enforcement on a wireless device." Such guidelines could, for example, force an iPhone is placed in a movie automatically set to "silent" or changes to an aircraft in airplane mode and all wireless connections turned off.

But the property right 8,254,902 also mentions a function that could lead to controversy, Apple should actually be integrated into its products. They would allow authorities iPhones temporarily disable completely. In a disaster situation, this could be useful in order to prevent overloading of mobile networks, which are also needed for the coordination of rescue teams. In repressive states, but it would be also possible to restrict the communication of users.

A patent in itself is, of course, no evidence that Apple will use a technique in the foreseeable future. The company owns hundreds property rights that were never realized.
